Haha totally relate. Similar thoughts when considering a hammam in Turkey. Settled for a private one and it was so worth it. Felt like a baby being scrubbed and pampered by someone else at the end of it. I don't think I could do a public one just yet though. Something to try if you ever visit Turkey/Africa.
I am planning a Japan trip this June too and will definitely try onsen if I have time! haha in the northern China, we have spas similar to Turkey Hammam, so mentally I am very ready to get naked in public onsen haha! Love your writing!
